In our journey as Christians, we often encounter spiritual battles that can leave us feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and confused. These attacks can come in various forms—temptations, doubts, fear, and even conflicts within our families. The Bible, however, provides clear guidance on how to respond when Satan targets us with his schemes. Here’s what we must do when faced with spiritual attacks, according to my Bible (KJV) of the Bible.
1. Put on the Whole Armor of God
The first and most crucial step is to arm ourselves with the spiritual protection that God provides. Ephesians 6:10-11 (KJV) instructs us, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
The armor of God includes:
- The Belt of Truth: Ground yourself in the truth of God’s Word.
- The Breastplate of Righteousness: Live a life of integrity and righteousness.
- The Gospel of Peace: Be ready to share and stand in the peace of the gospel.
- The Shield of Faith: Protect yourself against doubt and fear by trusting in God.
- The Helmet of Salvation: Guard your mind with the assurance of your salvation.
- The Sword of the Spirit: Use the Word of God as your weapon against lies and deception.
- Prayer: Constantly communicate with God, seeking His guidance and protection.
2. Resist the Devil
James 4:7 (KJV) provides a powerful promise: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” The key here is submission to God—acknowledging His authority in our lives. By resisting Satan’s temptations and standing firm in our faith, we are assured that the devil will eventually flee.
3. Pray Without Ceasing
Prayer is our lifeline to God. In Ephesians 6:18 (KJV), we are reminded, “Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.” Prayer should be our first response, not our last resort. Through prayer, we invite God’s presence and power into our situation, enabling us to overcome any attack from the enemy.
4. Stay Vigilant and Sober
1 Peter 5:8-9 (KJV) warns us, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” Satan is constantly on the prowl, looking for opportunities to strike. Therefore, we must remain alert, discerning his tactics, and steadfast in our faith.
5. Stand Firm in Faith
Finally, 1 Corinthians 16:13 (KJV) encourages us, “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.” Our faith is the foundation that keeps us grounded during spiritual battles. It is through faith that we access God’s strength, wisdom, and victory over the enemy.
Conclusion
Spiritual warfare is a reality that every believer must face. However, we are not left defenseless. By putting on the armor of God, resisting the devil, staying in constant prayer, remaining vigilant, and standing firm in faith, we can withstand Satan’s attacks and emerge victorious. Remember, God is on our side, and through Him, we have the power to overcome any challenge the enemy throws our way.
Let us take heart in the words of Romans 8:37 (KJV): “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” With God’s help, we can stand strong against the devil’s schemes and protect ourselves and our families from his attacks.
